College Activity
1. Student Centered Activities:
- Students should actively participate in the SNA, YRC, RRC, Sports, Special day programmes, Medical camp, Department activities and Inter college competitions.
- Health record for individual student is maintained which is designed to contain a summary of the student’s previous medical history and a complete record of his/her health during the period of study.
- Guidance and counseling for students are provided by the teaching faculty. Co-curricular training programmes are conducted periodically.
2. Faculty Centered Activities:
Faculties are actively participate in the in-service education, journal presentation, research report presentation, committee activity, department activity and special day programmes
3. Committee Activities:
A) Curriculum Committee:
Every year we prepare Master Rotation plan and Clinical Rotation plan before starting the Academic year. The pros and cons are discussed. Final decision will be taken by the committee.
B) Disciplinary Committee:
The Disciplinary Committee is conducting the enquiry with the students regarding their problems and conveys the report to the management with supervision of principal. It consists of faculty members and student representatives.
C) Anti-Ragging Committee:
Under the guidance of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, we conduct the meeting among the students. Anti- ragging advices are put up in various areas of college and hostel premises & submit the report to the university once in 3 months. Ragging is prohibited within the campus and an Anti-Ragging committee is constituted. Principal is the Chairperson, professors and all class teachers are the members of the committee.
D) Editorial Committee:
This committee publishes the faculty and student articles and research report to the journals and doing the editorial work in the magazine and research report. Committee provides the valuable suggestion and correction to enhance the research and articles content.
E) Journal Committee:
Our faculty presents the Journal topics on every third week of month to enrich our knowledge.
f) Counseling Committee:
Teachers and students are divided as 1:10 ratio for Academic, personal and financial counseling. Monthly once, one-hour interaction with each student to enhance their mental health and help them to solve their problems.
G) Library Committee:
The Library Committee aims at promoting equitable access to all information resources. The Committee has the responsibility of recommending, selecting and purchasing books for the library. The Committee consists of Librarian, Faculty and student representatives.
H) Special day Committee:
The committees provide the prior intimation to the consent department regarding the special day events and monitor the report updating in the ERP.
I) Hostel and Health Committee:
The principal, RTs and student representatives are the member of this committee. This committee ensures the hostel cleanliness, safe drinking water, and food hygiene and health status of the students.
J) Sports Committee:
The students are daily engaging with sports activity at evening. Every year our college conducts the sports meet and distribute the prizes and championship award to the students. Recommend the students for permission to participate in the intra and inter college competitions
K) NSS:
It is an active organization in college which was inaugurated in 2012. The overall aim of NSS is to orient the student youth to community service while they are in their educational institutions itself.
L) Cultural Committee:
This committee organizes and promotes all intra and inters college cultural events to bring out the hidden talents of the students in performing arts.
M) Environmental Committee:
The faculties and students are the member of this committee. The committees monitor the cleanliness of the college environment.
N) Student Nurse Association:
We have a SNA unit in our college. We enrolled all the students in new membership plan SNA/TNAI Association in National and State level. We send the students to annual SNA biennial conference for participating curricular and extracurricular activities every year. SNA also contributes budget for the special day celebration.SNA activities report send to head office, New Delhi. Every year, we recommend the students to avail SNA scholarship based on marks, discipline and socio economic status. Students are actively participated in all the SNA activities and we conducted 27 competitions for Nurses week celebration. SNA distributed the prizes to the winners of the competitions.
O) YRC:
In our college we have YRC unit. We enroll all the students in this association. YRC also contributes budget for the celebration of National days. We send the report to YRC every year.
P) Red Ribbon Club:
The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University releasing the fund to establish RRC unit and to carry out Red Ribbon Club activities in every year. Our RRC unit was awarded for excellent performer by Tamil Nadu AIDS control society.
Q) Alumnae Association:
It is the association of the former students of this college. After the successful completion of the course, students are enrolled as members of the Alumnae Association. It conducts educational sessions, annual conferences and get together.
R) Placement Committee:
This committee provides the training towards personality development, communication and subject review to the students. Every year we arrange the campus interview from various hospitals and ensures 100% placement to the students
4. Departmental activities:
A) Medical Surgical Nursing Department:
Faculty member dealing, Medical Surgical Nursing I and II, theory and Laboratory hours as per INC. Students get the clinical training at Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital. Apart from the regular routine training, they will arrange the guest lecturer classes.
B) Child Health Nursing Department:
We have Child Health Nursing lab with senior Faculty members. They plan and send the students to the Clinical as per Indian Nursing Council norms to the Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital. Apart from the regular routine training, they will arrange the guest lecturer classes.
C) OBG Department:
We have maternity nursing lab as per INC Norms. We plan and send the students for midwifery clinical training to Thoothukudi medical college and hospital at Thoothukudi. The students will attend the night duty in labour room. As per their requirements the students will assist the antenatal, intranatal, postnatal mothers and conduct deliveries. Clinical presentation, health education and counseling will be given by the students during their clinical posting in the needed topics to the antenatal, intranatal and postnatal mothers. Sexual and reproductive health awareness, safe motherhood and polycystic ovarian syndrome programme plan to celebrate every year.
D) Community Health Nursing Department:
Community Health Nursing department every year planning both CHN-I and CHN-II theory and clinical postings as per INC requirement. Students are gaining good rural practical experiences from kayamozhi PHC, Arumuganeri PHC, Melaputhukudi and Ammanpuram. Urban practical experiences will be given in the urban Primary Health Centres in Ganesh Nagar, Mullakadu and PMT Colony, Tuticorin. During the practical posting students will be attended various health programmes. It will be conducted by the PHCs and Urban primary Health Centres Health Education and counseling will be given by the students during their clinical postings in the needed topics to the individual and family.
E) Community Health Centre:
As per INC, TNNMC requirement, Padmashri Dr. Sivanthi Aditanar community health centre at Melaputhukudi started on 08/08/2013 and Providing Health services to the adopting villages and for the same management has generously spared
Rs. 5, 00,000/year- for the free health services. Health centre is functioning 6 days a week, including consultation on Tuesday and Saturday by Dr.K.Lakshmikanth,M.B.B.S. Nursing staff is available to provide acute and follow up care all the days. During consultation average patient flow is 60/week. Health Centre is extending the services to the nearby 6 Villages with medical facilities and creating awareness by educating them in their needed areas.
In Melaputhukudi Health Centre provided the following free Health services,
- Outpatient services
- Oral, IV Medication, IV drip
- Basic Lab services
- Dressing
- Home visit
- Referral services to the nearest specialty hospital and follow up.
- Conducting health awareness programmes in the village
- Nutritional awareness programme by providing nutrition item every month to the patient.
- Conducting school health programmes in the schools
F) Mental Health Nursing Department:
Mental Health department sent the students for clinical training to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital at Thoothukudi and Sneka Mind Care Centre, Tirunelveli.
